F. R. Maunsell was a British Army officer who rose to become a General. He travelled widely and contributed other articles to the Geographical Journal.

Complete issue of [b]Blackwood's Magazine for April 1952[/b] includes a black-bordered essay, "The King" on the death of King George VI and the ascension of Queen Elizabeth (4 pages); also, a longer essay (11 pages) called "The Peerless Transit" on the Riichard Gower-designed fleet sailing ship H.M.S. Transit, launched in 1800. Also, there is a longer (11 page) essay called [b]"Ski in Kurdistan"[/b][b][/b] on mountaineering in northern Iraq by D.L. Busk.
